It was a true family achievement to produce this post. A really lovely one at that. Adam is the photographer, while Eddie is lying on a duvet on the floor, playing with his toys and SPEAKING. He has really started to ‘talk’ a lot – and loudly. Wild exclamations at times, while laughing a little of himself. Meanwhile, I try to be beauty-like and serious, hey – mum is working. It’s by no means doable to keep a straight face, and I can’t help but breaking out laughing. But it’s actually really nice and quite efficient at that – family at work!
IN COLABORATION WITH NIVEA
^^^Really hard to keep a straight face!
Do you remember that I was on a shoot right after giving birth? Where Eddie joined me on set, and everything went wonderfully well and he slept through it all? That was to shoot a campaign for the launch of NIVEA’s MicellAIR Expert. A new type of micellar water, which even also tackles waterproof makeup (and is perfume free – that’s really hard to find).
We had such a good time on set that NIVEA wanted to pull my blog into the collaboration – rather than just using me as a ‘model’ in some videos that they shot. And seeing as the love was reciprocal, I quickly said yes.
Especially as they gave me a little bag at the shoot so that I could test the cleanser at home, and it turned out to be one of the best micellar waters I’ve ever come across. And I have tested quite a few over the years (and written a post or ten about micellar water – it is just genius; quick, gentle and efficient). The reason why I was wowed this time is that I’ve never previously been able to do a deep-cleanse with just one wad of cotton wool. The dirty cotton wool is a clear proof of its efficiency – which doesn’t result in dryness. It’s got an entire face stuck to it afterwards! It sounds gross, haha! And it sure is!
As the majority of all women (and, I assume, 99.9% of all men) still go to sleep without having cleansed their face beforehand – I really can’t believe it. To take old makeup with you in bed PLUS air pollution, dirt – everything we move around in. If you wash your jeans and jumpers after having worn them all day, getting them dirty, how do you think your face is feeling? It faces the world as much as your clothes.
Yes, I go on about it a lot and I shouldn’t be preaching, but you often ask me, ‘what is it that you do to have skin like that?!‘ And then you compliment me – so lovely! But the greatest trick in my beauty routine is cleansing. I may shuffle between creams, types, brands. But the steps in my routine; rock solid. And I stick to it. Even after long days, evenings, nights. Or if I can hear Eddie move around, ready for his midnight snack. In those cases, I just clean it earlier. 7pm, as soon as he’s all tucked in, to avoid the routine from crumbling with a crying baby. It is so important. And that disgusting wad of cotton wool with my face stuck to it – it shows just how important it really is.
^^^100 % au naturel and newly cleansed (with urine-smelling baby’s breath in front of me – incredibly that I’m able to keep a straight face, haha!)
And it doesn’t get easier than with micellar water – I’ve been using it for seven years, I reckon, applying it as a first step. NIVEA has launched the micellar water shown in the picture; MicellAIR Expert – to apply it, one could (in the name of sustainability) consider using reusable wads of cotton wool. A few of you gave me a tip about that the otheer day. Either the DIY way (recipe here) or just purchasing them ready-made (such as here).
But if you’re on the road and in need of a touch up, just to get rid of a few mascara spots or panda eyes, the wipe edition of MicellAIR could become quite a genius resource in your purse. And as I show you on my story today – an extra little tip for lipstick fans, which Nicki Welsh taught me – using the wipe.
To me, the crucial parameter is how gentle it is. You shouldn’t drag or pull it across the skin. The micelles in micellar water are small dirt-binding magnets. You can even use it to remove waterproof makeup – this does however require leaving the cotton wool on your skin for about 10 seconds. And it contains no perfume – and, yes, the price is just under DKK 70. For the big bottle that is. That’s quite doable, right?
^^^Doing a little baby talking along the way, hehe…
It seems that every time I talk about cleansing, it turns into a thundering speech, haha! I know, but it just is so important. I also do realise that some might add, ‘yes, if you get your skin used to it!’ or ‘it is a need created by the industry!’ – but then again, we also put soap on our hands when washing them. We add detergent to our washing machines when doing the laundry. There’s no such thing as self-cleansing facial skin. Quite the opposite; it’s delicate and exposed so take good care of it <3
