Postcard from Italy - ROCKPAPERDRESSES
Postcard from Italy

rockpaperdresses, Cathrine Widunok Wichmand,

With a rather delayed departure from Copenhagen and the first stay back at La Darbia (where we stayed last year) cancelled as a consequence, we went straight to Tuscany. Quite a clunky start to the holiday, but who cares when we’ve got all of the time in the world and no return ticket?

If anyone’s in doubt, our parental leave holiday – or just an early summer holiday – has kicked off. Three-four weeks in Italy and a quick road trip to Cannes and Nice, as I have an assignment there with L’Oréal.

It required some effort to really land in a proper holiday spirit, likely because we’ve been in a state of emergency and somewhat holiday mode since January (or since October in my case) with Adam on leave and me on a pseudo leave. None of that usual large contrast between working our butts off in the lead-up to a holiday and THEN taking off and FINALLY having time to hold hands. We haven’t worked our butts off – and we still haven’t got time to hold hands, haha! It actually feels as if we’ve just moved our parental leave life to Italy. That is, same-same but more sunny than in Denmark, I hear. We still have to stride along with the stroller and coordinate naps and blend purees and all that stuff, hehe… I guess it’s true what people say – holidays will never be the same again. But that’s totally, totally okay. We have new frames to enjoy, and that’s quite something too.

After a huge crush on France for decades (I’ve learned to master the plural, my gawd!), which most certainly hasn’t vanished, Italy revealed its wonders to me last year. The food – of course, it has always been my ultimate favourite. The colours – I’m sold. It’s exactly how I want to see the world – in a slightly golden light. That’s a skill they master down here. And then siesta. Which is damn annoying when you think you’re just about to have an early lunch, and really genius in a context of thinking about being less efficient, more relaxed, less multitasking, etc.

rockpaperdresses, Cathrine Widunok Wichmand,

We’re staying in a flat for 2.5 weeks, thinking that we wanna be able to slow down compleeeetely and focus fully on Eddie rather than moving around constantly as we usually do. We do have a few trips in mind, though – to Lucca, Siena perhaps. Whatever the day calls for. We’re going to plan absolutely nothing. Other than gelato.

Consequently, I think the blog will be relatively quiet, something it hasn’t been since Eddie entered the world. But now we’re abroad, with a minimum amount of content planned. If I find time for a post, I may publish one (I’ve got a semi-ready writeup on the menstruation cup). Alternatively, I may not publish anything at all. I’m gonna go with the flow – and then I’ll be on instagram, if you wanna keep up a little bit.
